I had been listening to a lot of indie folk artists around the time I wrote 'You Never Knew Me', especially Joshua James. His use of high reverb helped set the tone for writing when, one day, I discovered a sound that set the wheels in motion for writing this song and 'Try Coming Rond' using my Roland Micro Cube amp. I'd have the amp leaning against the wall at one end of the room, then have my Takamine playing at the other end, singing at first through an iPhone. Hearing the real sound of the acoustic guitar up close yet with an effect coming from the amp really inspired me.

'You Never Knew Me' explores who we are and how others see us.
